Hua Hin Ranked Among the Top 10 Retirement Destinations in Asia by U.S. News & World Report
The ranking places Hua Hin alongside other well-known retirement destinations, including Chiang Mai and Thailand’s eastern coast. The article mentions that Hua Hin offers dining options that remain accessible to modest budgets. Hua Hin’s appeal as a retirement destination is also tied to its cultural and historical significance. The city has long been a favored summer retreat for the Thai royal family, which adds to its charm and prestige.
This latest recognition from U.S. News & World Report strengthens Hua Hin’s growing reputation as an international hotspot for retirees. It follows similar acknowledgments from Forbes and the Annual Global Retirement Index, both of which have highlighted Thailand as a top destination for retirees seeking a lifestyle that is both relaxed and dynamic.
The report also emphasizes the broader trend of retirees from countries like the United States choosing to settle in Asia due to its affordability and various attractions.

During the visit, the Deputy Minister highlighted the importance of accelerating infrastructure upgrades to meet ICAO standards, including expanding the runway to 45 meters, improving its surface, and enhancing electrical systems. These upgrades are designed to accommodate larger aircraft, such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320.

Passenger traffic at Hua Hin Airport has significantly increased, with more than 80 percent of travelers using the Chiang Mai-Hua Hin-Chiang Mai route. Highlighting future growth potential, Monporn urged the Airports Department to explore additional domestic routes connecting northeastern, northern, and southern Thailand.
The resumption of international flights is also a priority, with plans to relaunch routes like Kuala Lumpur-Hua Hin-Kuala Lumpur, which were previously operational. Monporn suggested that developing new regional connections could further boost Hua Hin’s profile as a tourism hub.
As part of the government’s vision to make Hua Hin a key tourist destination, Monporn proposed transforming the airport into a “living airport” by hosting events and promoting local attractions. The plan also includes collaboration with local universities to offer aviation-related training, complementing the Prime Minister’s “One Pilot per Province” scholarship program.

Danai Rueangsorn updated key projects, including the runway extension and electrical system upgrade, which have been completed at a cost of 239.9 million THB. Final inspections by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) are currently underway.
Additionally, plans are in place to address security issues identified by the CAAT, such as extending runway safety zones and enhancing the runway end safety area (RESA). A proposed budget of 300 million THB has been allocated for these improvements, which include the construction of a new terminal.

The Golf Course at Black Mountain
Black Mountain’s distinctive 3 nines are challenging, yet highly enjoyable to play for golfers of all abilities and the course is famous for hosting many Asian Tour and European Tour events.
Ranked #59 in Golf Digest’s World Top 100 in 2018, after being awarded “Best Course in Thailand” in 2016, Black Mountain is renowned for its 5 star golfing experience, the year-round quality of the course, and the beautiful sweeping vistas.

Current Capacity and Operations
Hua Hin Airport spans 450 rai and features a 2,100-meter-long, 35-meter-wide runway capable of accommodating aircraft such as the Airbus A320 and ATR72. Its terminal, covering 7,200 square meters, can handle 300 passengers per hour, equating to an annual capacity of 860,000 passengers, with the potential to reach 1 million. There are also parking spaces for 90 vehicles. Domestic flights on the Chiang Mai-Hua Hin-Chiang Mai route, operated by Thai AirAsia, run four times a week.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and Deputy Minister of Transport Suriya Jungrungreangkit recently visited the airport to support the project to rename it the “Phet Hua Hin International Airport.” This initiative aims to enhance connectivity between Hua Hin and neighboring Phetchaburi, positioning the airport as a gateway for high-spending tourists arriving by private jets, thereby boosting Thailand’s tourism economy.
The proximity of Hua Hin Airport to Bangkok, combined with its growing popularity among both Thai and international travelers, highlights its potential as a key hub for private aviation. The airport currently serves primarily as a hub for private jet flights and is home to a civil aviation training center.
Originally built in 1935 as Bo Fai Airport, the airport straddles the border between Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan and Cha-Am in Phetchaburi. It is believed to be the only airport in Thailand located in two provinces. Initially constructed for military purposes, the airport later transitioned to civilian use, with Thai Airways operating DC-3 aircraft in the 1950s. On February 3, 1961, the airport was renamed Hua Hin Airport, and its operations were transferred to the Civil Aviation Department, now known as the Airports Department (DOA).
THAILAND E-VISA JANUARY 2025

Foreign nationals intending to visit Thailand can now apply for an online visa as the country rolls out its new electronic visa system globally.
Launched on January 1, 2025, the service is operational in 94 Thai embassies and consulates worldwide, providing travelers with a faster, safer, and more convenient way to obtain their visa.
The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially launched the system on December 17, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the modernization of the country’s visa application process. Travelers will be able to present an electronic copy of their visa during airport check-in, eliminating the need for traditional visa stickers.
More Than a Decade in the Making
Speaking at the launch event, Vorawut Pongprapapan, Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs, emphasized that the e-visa system had been in development for over a decade. First introduced in Beijing, China, in February 2019, the system expanded to include visa issuance without physical stickers in September 2021. Starting in January, it will be available globally.
IT’S A VISA!
- Apply: Travelers can submit their application.
- Anywhere: Accessible from anywhere in the world.
- Anytime: Available 24/7.
THAILAND E-VISA JANUARY 2025 (CONTINUE)
The e-visa platform, available at www.thaievisa.go.th, offers a secure and user-friendly application process. It integrates real-time data with the Immigration Bureau and the National Intelligence Agency to enhance immigration control procedures.
Visa fees can be paid online via a partnership with Kasikorn Bank, though some applicants may still need to present proof of payment at Thai embassies or consulates depending on their country. Authorities aim to extend full online payment capabilities to all countries within six months.
Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa emphasized the role of the initiative in strengthening Thailand’s appeal to international visitors. By reducing administrative barriers, the e-visa system aims to attract tourists, business travelers, investors, and students.
“This streamlined process will enhance Thailand’s competitiveness and strengthen its position as a regional and global hub of connectivity,” said Maris.
The system incorporates advanced technology and identity verification measures to protect applicants’ personal data, ensuring secure processing. It is also designed to accommodate multiple visa categories, including student and work visas.
Visa Exemptions Remain Unaffected
For travelers from the 93 countries or territories already benefiting from visa exemptions for stays of up to 60 days, there will still be exemptions for e-visas.

RARE WILDLIFE SIGHTINGS AND ECOLOGICAL HIGHLIGHTS: THE RICHNESS OF HUA HIN'S NEARBY NATIONAL PARKS

Recent wildlife sightings in Kaeng Krachan National Park and Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park have underscored the ecological importance of these protected areas in Thailand.
On December 18, a rare sighting of a leopard was captured in Kaeng Krachan National Park near Ban Krang. The footage, filmed by photographer Krittipong Ngamjing, shows the healthy leopard moving confidently in the early morning light. Chaiwat Limlikhit-akson, director of the National Parks Department, shared the video on social media, urging visitors to drive cautiously in the park to minimize wildlife disturbances.
Kaeng Krachan National Park, located in Phetchaburi Province, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its biodiversity and serves as a crucial habitat for endangered species such as leopards. Park officials highlight that such sightings emphasize the importance of adhering to park regulations and reporting any notable wildlife encounters.
Hornbill Nesting Efforts Bear Fruit In another positive development, Kaeng Krachan National Park officials announced the successful use of a restored nesting cavity by a pair of great hornbills. Located in a Tetrameles tree near kilometer marker 6, the cavity was repaired in November by a local group of bird enthusiasts as part of a conservation initiative to support hornbill reproduction. Photographer Saman Khunkhwamdee documented the pair’s nesting activities, with the female hornbill sealing herself inside the cavity to lay eggs while the male provided food. This natural behavior ensures the safety of the eggs and chicks, marking a crucial step in the hornbill’s reproduction process.
Mongkol Chaipakdee, the park’s director, praised the restoration effort, noting that it plays a significant role in supporting the hornbill population. “The restored nesting site has been instrumental in the survival of great hornbills,” he said, highlighting the impact of community involvement in wildlife conservation.
Rare Serow Spotted at Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park On December 11, a serow, a rare and endangered species protected by Thai wildlife laws, was spotted at Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. Park officials observed the serow, scientifically known as Capricornis sumatraensis, on a limestone mountain during a routine patrol. The serow is well-suited to rugged terrains and is classified as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Phongsathorn Phromkhunthot, the head of Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, highlighted the significance of the sighting, noting that it reflects the park’s commitment to conservation. “This sighting reaffirms the ecological value of Khao Sam Roi Yot, which is home to a wide range of ecosystems, from limestone mountains to wetlands,” he said.
As Thailand’s first Ramsar Wetland Site, Khao Sam Roi Yot spans over 98,000 rai and is home to more than 300 bird species, along with a diverse array of other wildlife. Visitors are encouraged to follow park guidelines to help preserve its unique environment.
These rare wildlife sightings serve as a reminder of the natural wealth within the nearby national parks and the importance of conservation efforts. Authorities continue to urge visitors to respect park rules, drive cautiously, and report any unusual wildlife activity.
